iPhone timelines over the years
Although initial models are usually introduced in the first half of the year, Apple has since moved to a consistent schedule of announcing and releasing new iPhone models in September. Here’s a quick timeline of the last few years of iPhone releases:
- iPhone 13: September 23, 2021
- iPhone 12: October 23, 2020
- iPhone 11: September 20, 2019
- iPhone XS: September 21, 2018
- iPhone X: November 3, 2017
- iPhone 8: September 22, 2017
- iPhone 7: September 16, 2016
As you can see, the iPhone release schedule has been relatively consistent, but with two major exceptions. The iPhone 12 series was delayed by a month in 2020 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The iPhone X was announced in September but wasn’t released until November. If you remember, the iPhone X had a completely new design and was the first iPhone with Face ID.
iPhone 14 release date news
The iPhone 14 lineup includes camera upgrades, a redesign for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and more. is expected to bring. For example, Pro models have hole + pill-shaped cutouts. The front-facing camera is expected to be updated, a new purple color may be offered, and there are always rumors of an open display.
This year, all signs point to the iPhone 14 being on track for a September announcement and release. This includes iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is the entire lineup of new iPhone models we can expect this year.
If history is any indication, Apple usually holds its annual Special Event to announce new iPhone models on the first or second Tuesday of September. This year it will be September 6 or September 13. Given that Labor Day in the US is September 5, the most likely date for the keynote speech this year is September 13.
Having said all that, we still can’t completely rule out the possibility of a delay. As we’ve discussed many times, there are many issues affecting the supply chain right now, from shortages to shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Till now, we only saw one report It shows that the iPhone 14 is facing production delays. And even this report showed that the delays affected the iPhone 14 Max and not the other three modes. Ming-Chi Kuo reported That the iPhone 14 series is still on track for a September launch and launch. However, he noted that the iPhone 14 Max is “behind” but the situation is “under control”.
However, Apple will always prioritize iPhone production over its other products. The iPhone is the company’s biggest product, the most profitable, and the one Wall Street investors are most interested in. If additional supply chain issues arise, we’ll likely see other products delayed before the iPhone 14 is delayed.
