Speculations after monthsrumors and a list of leaked achievements, today Rare finally confirmed the arrival of the GoldenEye 007 remaster. Today’s Nintendo Direct showed off the official trailer for the long-awaited release, followed by a tweet from Xbox studio Rare confirming that the game will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass. However, the tweet does not mention that there will be an Xbox edition no Get verified online multiplayer for Nintendo Switch.

The remaster will feature improved graphics, boosted frame rates, and native 16:9 4K resolution on Xbox. Local split-screen multiplayer will also be a feature for up to four players, but so far online multiplayer has only been announced for the Nintendo release. Online multiplayer on Nintendo Switch Online is a system-level feature that allows any classic game from the N64 library with native multiplayer features to run online via virtualized emulation.
No release date has been confirmed so far, but this announcement comes 25 years after the original release, and fans will be excited to see all the speculation from the past months confirmed by official sources. Due to online multiplayer being a Nintendo Switch exclusive, the announcement was somewhat muted. Bringing online virtualized multiplayer features to classic games on Xbox will require additional investment Discontinued Xbox backwards compatibility system at least for now.
Given the interesting legal situation for the GoldenEye 007 video game IP, which is split between Microsoft and Nintendo, porting the game to modern systems likely wasn’t an easy task. Phil Spencer has previously spoken of his “tone of respect” for Nintendo despite being a competitor in the console market. With the rare ones Banjo-Kazooie Arriving on Nintendo Switch Online this year, it’s one of various recent collaborative efforts between the two studios.
GoldenEye007 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass as a day one release, and owners of the games’ Rare Replay compilation will receive a free copy of the game.

A Microsoft spokesperson has been contacted to confirm that the GoldenEye 007 remaster will not feature online play on Xbox.

While there are no plans to include the online multiplayer game as part of GoldenEye 007 to Xbox Game Pass, Xbox, Xbox It’s focused on delivering the title to players the way they fondly remember it, including a local multiplayer mode that lets up to four players sit on the couch in a battle of wits and skill,” the spokesperson said.
